People in the e-mail address book of a state NAACP official in North Carolina are getting an e-mail that claims she's stranded in Africa.

It's not true.

The e-mail, which is full of grammatical mistakes, purports to be from Amina Turner, and says she's writing from a "saber cafe" in Nigeria. It says she needs $2,900 wired to her to pay a hotel bill and other expenses.

Turner says she's not aware of anyone who fell for the scam.

She says it's "unnerving" to find your name being used for something like that.

The hoax is being investigated by state and federal authorities.
