Students and faculty at the University of Chicago are on alert after a fatal shooting and a rash of other crimes.
A graduate student from Senegal who was about to get his doctorate in chemistry was gunned down near the campus yesterday. Less than a hour before that, someone fired a shot at a staffer walking nearby. And two students were robbed at gunpoint.
Police say they think the fatal shooting could've been a robbery attempt.
School officials have sent students a letter promising to increase security patrols. Chicago police are also expected to step up their patrols of the area.
