Former French president Jacques Chirac has been notified that he's the target of a corruption probe from his days as mayor of Paris.
Chirac's lawyer says a judge filed preliminary charges today in a probe of embezzled public funds. There have been allegations that people were given fake jobs when he was mayor. Chirac was able to skirt investigation as president because of the immunity that goes with that job.
Under French law, the filing of preliminary charges means a judge thinks there is strong evidence suggesting involvement in a crime.
