Big fire trucks with wings have been doing what they can to help fight the wildfires in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

That's how AeroFlite Pilot William Hollenbeck refers to the amphibious CL 215 air tankers on loan from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to its counterpart in Michigan.

The Evening News of Sault Ste. Marie reports Wednesday that the CL 215s can drop up to 1,400 gallons of water per trip. That's been coming in handy fighting the wildfires in Luce County's Duck Lake area.

The water bombers have been making 30 to 100 runs once airborne.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources said Wednesday the 21,540-acre fire is 55 percent contained.
