HARTLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. A Wal-Mart employee says the retail giant fired him after he came to the aid of a woman being attacked in the parking lot of a southeastern Michigan store.

Thirty-year-old Kristopher Oswald tells WXYZ-TV the Hartland Township store's management gave him paperwork saying it was dismissing him for policy violations.

Oswald says he was on break about 2:30 a.m. Sunday when he saw a man grabbing a woman. He says he asked her if she needed help and the man then punched and threatened to kill him.

Oswald says two other men also attacked him, but Livingston County sheriff's deputies arrived and halted the fight.

A spokeswoman for the Bentonville, Ark.-based company said Thursday that it was looking into the matter.
