Students at Eastern Michigan University have adorned trees on the school's Ypsilanti campus with yellow ribbons to honor 255 military veterans from the state who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Each ribbon lists the soldier's name, hometown, whether they served in Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom and the date they died.
Ida Mollett of Eastern Michigan's Veterans Services and student veterans tied the large, yellow plastic ribbons in visible spots on campus. The school has one of the largest veteran student populations in the state.
Mollett calls the ribbons "silent reminders" of veterans' sacrifices.
The ribbons will remain up until Tuesday.
