Thousands raised for man beaten by Detroit mob

Detroit The daughter of a man who was severely beaten by a Detroit mob says more than $50,000 has been raised online for his medical bills.

Mandi Emerick tells The Detroit News she never expected such a positive reaction. Steve Utash remained in critical condition Saturday, three days after a group of people attacked him when he tried to help a boy who stepped in front of his pickup truck.

No arrests have been made. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan calls the attack "senseless." Utash is a 54-year-old Macomb County man who trims trees for a living and has no health insurance.

Utash's family has been raising money through http://www.gofundme.com .

A prominent pastor, the Rev. Horace Sheffield III, is calling on the public to go block-by-block to find the "heartless perpetrators."
