More than three dozen West Michigan self-storage units have been broken into.

MLive.com reports that owners of Ottogan Self Storage in Zeeland Township, southwest of Grand Rapids, were trying Monday to contact renters about the thefts.

Owner Keith Frenz says thieves used bolt cutters Sunday night or early Monday to remove locks from 37 of the 90 units. Golf clubs, snowboards and welders were among the items stolen.

Bolt cutters were left inside a car stored in one of the units.

Thieves increasingly have targeted self-storage units across the country.
