DETROIT (AP) - Thousands of homes and businesses across Michigan lost power after gusting winds hit the state.
DTE Energy Co. reports late Friday afternoon that about 12,000 of its customers are without power, with outages scattered around southeastern Michigan. CMS Energy Corp.'s Consumers Energy unit says 1,000 of its customers are without power.
Both utilities expect most of those without electricity will have it restored by the end of the day.
The powerful gusts on Friday came a day after a rainy, windy Halloween night across much of the state.
A posting on the website for Gull Lake Schools in southwestern Michigan says the district was closed Friday because of power outages. In Augusta, which also was hard hit by high winds, MLive.com reports Galesburg-Augusta Middle School was closed Friday.
