A preliminary examination is scheduled in Detroit's 36th District Court for a 17-year-old accused in a crime spree that includes the shooting of an 81-year-old retired police officer during a carjacking.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office says 17-year-old Deangelo Owens of Southfield is charged with 14 felonies, including assault with intent to murder, carjacking, unlawful imprisonment and armed
robbery.
The Detroit Free Press reports former Detroit police Officer Moses Baldwin was shot in the shoulder last month outside a post office while exchanging gunfire during a carjacking.
Owens also is accused in the shooting of a 52-year-old man making deliveries at Comerica Park about a week earlier.
The Associated Press has been unable to determine the name of
Owens' attorney.
The court hearing is set for Tuesday, July 12.
