A Detroit fire investigator says he believes an arsonist using gasoline caused an explosion that leveled a house and damaged adjoining buildings on Detroit's east side.

The Detroit News says two dozen firefighters spent an hour battling the blaze, which started about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

No injuries were reported, and police checked debris from the home to make sure no one was trapped.

Fire Capt. Pat McNulty says preliminary tests show that someone doused the house with gasoline. He says natural gas wasn't involved.

The fire department says it's offering a reward of up to $5,000 for tips leading to an arrest or conviction.
