DOWAGIAC A man has been sentenced for a robbery ring that targeted Hispanic migrant workers.

Lee Roberts, 23, from Dowagiac, pleaded guilty to larceny and was sentenced to 300 days in jail and four years of probation.

The Herald Palladium reports that Roberts and three others targeted Hispanic men for the robberies because they figured if the men were in the country illegally, they'd be less likely to report the crime to police.

Ashley Maldonado was considered the ring leader of the robbery spree. She was sentenced to three years in prison. Cleo Sims and Joann Stanage received probation and jail terms similar to Roberts'.
