We are getting our first look at exactly how a Michigan woman escaped from a convicted murderer in Elkhart County.
Michael Elliot escaped from the Ionia Correctional Facility on Feb. 2.
He carjacked a woman in Ionia, making her drive two hours to a Middlebury gas station.
Surveillance video from that gas station shows Elliot talking with the cashier.
He is in a white sweater and dark jacket
Meanwhile, the woman sneaks out of the car.
After Elliot leaves the counter, she goes up to the cashier and asks him to write down the gas station's address.
She then locks herself in the bathroom and calls 911.
Elliot had already taken off by the time police arrived at the gas station.
However, he was captured in LaPorte County the next day.
He is expected in court Wednesday to face charges of kidnapping, carjacking and escape.
