Detroit police say a 54-year-old woman was killed and four other people wounded in an argument and shooting on the city's west side.

Chief Chester Logan says the shooting Wednesday night on Carlin Street was among eight unrelated shootings that also left 10 adults and two teenagers wounded.

A 15-year-old girl was among the victims in the Carlin Street shooting, which stemmed from an argument over children playing outside a home.

No arrests have been made.

In an earlier shooting, a 48-year-old man was wounded while boarding a vacant house. Three arrests were made in that case.

Logan says Detroit as "a community must work together to reduce these tragedies."

Police report 115 homicides this year, down six from the same time in 2012. Non-fatal shootings are up by four.
