A Republican congressman from western Michigan will have a Democratic opponent in November after all.
No Democrat filed nominating petitions to run in the 2nd U.S. House District against Republican Rep. Bill Huizenga of Zeeland.
But Mlive.com (http://bit.ly/TZym0h ) reported Thursday that the Michigan Department of State has certified Muskegon City Commissioner Willie German Jr. as winner of the Aug. 7 Democratic primary with 1,813 write-in votes.
German's write-in campaign began after another Democrat ended his congressional bid on the day of the filing deadline.
The Republican-leaning district includes Muskegon, Lake, Newaygo, Oceana and Ottawa counties and parts of Mason, Kent and Allegan counties.
