A Michigan State Police bomb squad has disarmed a blasting cap that was found by a person who stepped outside his home to smoke a cigarette.

MLive.com reports that a state police dog that detects explosives searched the area in Hastings, including near Hastings Middle School, for additional explosives but found none. Police in the community about 30 miles southeast of Grand Rapids say they got a call about the blasting cap late Saturday.

The device, which can be used to trigger larger explosives, was determined to be live. The find is under investigation.
