Organizers of a revived state fair in Michigan say U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow is expected to serve as the event's grand marshal.

The Michigan Democrat serves as head of the Senate Agricultural Committee. The Great Lakes State Fair is Aug. 31 to Sept. 3 at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.

Organizers recently released more details of the event, which will include agricultural events, competitions, a circus and other entertainment offerings. Acts scheduled to perform include Annabelle Road, Jill Jack and David Shelby. A full list of events and attractions is posted online.

The Michigan State Fair, which took place in Detroit, closed in 2009 because of a lack of funding. In addition to having a different name and location, the new event isn't funded by the state.
