A rambunctious squirrel created havoc inside a West Michigan utility substation, knocking out power to several thousand electric customers.

WOOD-TV and WXMI-TV report that the squirrel got into the Ottawa County substation about 10 a.m. Sunday.

Consumer's Energy says 4,274 customers in and around Hudsonville, west of Grand Rapids, lost power for a few hours. Most had their electricity restored by noon.

The squirrel was killed in the accident.
