U.S. Sen. Carl Levin plans to speak at a ceremony in Dearborn marking the 59th anniversary of the end of the Korean War.

The office of the Michigan Democrat says the event starts at 7 p.m. Friday at the Henry Ford Centennial Library's auditorium.

The Dearborn Allied War Veterans Council sponsors the annual ceremony. It pays tribute to Korean War veterans and the 26 Dearborn service members killed in the Korean War.

The Korean War began June 25, 1950 when North Korean forces invaded South Korea. It ended July 27, 1953, with the signing of an armistice.

About 45,000 U.S. personnel were killed or are missing in the war.
