The University of Michigan Board of Regents has approved a $9 million renovation at Schembechler Hall and the addition of a $2.8 million marquee just outside of the Big House.
The regents passed both proposals Thursday at their monthly meeting.
Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon says the athletic department will raise the funds needed to pay for both projects.
Schembechler Hall is where the football program has its offices and practice locker room. It will have 7,000 square feet added during the project.
Its exterior will become brick and glass to match the look of the adjacent field house and nearby Yost Ice Arena.
A 48-by-27 foot sign 21 feet above the ground will be installed with video and audio along Stadium Boulevard near Michigan Stadium to promote athletic events.
