Saturday marks 40th year for Cherry Pit Spit

A 40-year tradition continues on Saturday as folks compete in the Annual Cherry Pit Spitting Championships.

Tree-mendous Fruit in Eau Clair hosts the international competition each year.

Competitors from all around Michiana, Chicago and even Canada and Europe have participated in the event.

And the cherry on top of it all is that the competition is free and open to a wide range of ages.

Qualifying rounds are from 10 am to noon with qualifiers continuing the championship at 1 pm.

Last year’s champion spit a pit 69 ft.

The contest is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.
