In the wake of the Boston Marathon tragedy, eyes are turning to other major athletic events and the security surrounding them.
This weekend marks the annual Blue and Gold game at the University of Notre Dame. The university says its security measures for regular season football games are wide-ranging and it will continue to employ the same standards for this game.
Security is kicking into high gear throughout Michiana as well with upcoming marathons in Michigan and Indiana over the next month.
Police in Lansing are on high alert for a marathon on Sunday, April 21. Authorities say they are adding additional patrols and bomb sweeps as precautionary measures.
Indianapolis has also ramped up security plans for the city’s massive mini-marathon to be held on May 4.
