South Bend - Actions speak louder than words, and around 300 girls are showing just how strong they are on Saturday.

They're participating in the fourth annual Girls on the Run 5K celebration.

Girls on the Run is a program that teaches self-confidence and acceptance to girls between 3rd and 5th grades.

The girls involved come from communities all across our region.

They've spent the last few weeks meeting with one another and volunteer coaches. During these sessions they train for Saturday's race and learn skills that will help them cope with peer pressure, bullying, and body image issues.

Saturday's race began at 9 a.m. at the John Adams High School track in South Bend.
