Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials are hosting a public meeting Wednesday in South Haven to discuss a consulting firm's report on safety at the Palisades nuclear power plant.
The 6 p.m. gathering will take place at the Beach Haven Event Center. Officials with plant owner Entergy Corp. are scheduled to describe how they have responded to findings in the report.
The NRC designated Palisades as one of the nation's four worst-performing nuclear plants after two safety violations last year, one of which forced a weeklong shutdown. The plant is in Van Buren County's Covert Township.
The commission is conducting a follow-up inspection at the plant to determine whether operators have made needed corrections. Spokeswoman Victoria Mitlyng says a team will spend 11 days at the plant, beginning Sept. 17.
