DETROIT Officials say a volunteer at a Detroit blight cleanup event found what appears to be a human skull.

The discovery was made Wednesday on the city's east side, where volunteers from Hantz Woodlands and clothing brand Carhartt were working.

Hantz Farms President Michael Score tells MLive.com he was called over by a woman at the site and it "looked like a real human skull."

Police and the Wayne County medical examiner's office responded. No other human remains were found in the area.

Hantz Woodlands is working to transform about 140 acres into a hardwood tree farm with 15,000 trees, and is clearing and maintaining land. It's part of an effort by John Hantz, who runs a network of financial services businesses, to put some vacant Detroit land to agricultural use.
