Authorities say they could release the identity of one of three people killed in a series of chain-reaction wrecks during a blinding snow squall on a Detroit freeway.
Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said Friday the 57-year-old man from the Detroit suburb of Allen Park was pronounced dead at the scene Thursday morning after white-out conditions and ice along Interstate 75 in southwest Detroit caused about 30 vehicles to crash.
Police have not released the names of a 7-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl who also were killed. The children are believed to be siblings. Their parents were injured.
Shaw says more drivers are reporting Friday they were involved in the crash. He says wrecks after the initial crash likely resulted from motorists driving too fast for the road conditions.
