DETROIT Detroit police are asking for public help in finding the woman who was driving a car that struck and critically injured a 6-year-old boy who was on his way to school.

Police say the black woman with blond hair hit the boy with her silver or gray two-door compact car on Wednesday morning. It happened on E. Warren Ave. on the city's east side.

Police said Wednesday evening that the boy was in critical condition at Children's Hospital of Michigan. They aren't releasing his name, but 30-year-old Christen Jones tells the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News that he's her son DeShaun White.

Jones says DeShaun was crossing the street with his 7- and 9-year-old brothers when he was hit.
