BAY CITY, Mich. Plans to house child immigrants from Central America in Bay City have drawn a mix of protesters and supporters.
MLive.com reports more than 75 people, roughly split evenly on the issue, chanted and waved signs and flags outside of City Hall on Monday.
Officials with Wellspring Lutheran Services said last week that the nonprofit has secured a federal contract to provide short-term shelter to some children from Central America in Bay City and Farmington Hills. Officials have said the children will be at area sites for 30 to 45 days.
Similar plans by Wolverine Human Services have drawn attention in Vassar. Republican state Rep. Kevin Daley of Lapeer County on Monday told Vassar City Council he'll use legislation this fall to start a discussion about such immigrants.
