Detroit police say a pit bull killed a 3-week-old baby after her mother put her car seat on the floor of a house.
Police say the attack happened about 5:45 p.m. Thursday at a home on the city's west side.
A police statement says the 24-year-old mother entered the house and placed the car seat with her daughter on the floor.
Police say the woman "walked away for a moment" and return to see the "pit bull attacking her daughter."
The statement says say the infant was taken to a hospital, where she was declared dead.
Police say they're investigating the dog attack.
