Pilot dies in small plane crash in Michigan

CHESANING, Mich. Authorities in Saginaw County say an ultralight plane crashed in a field next to a school, killing the man piloting it.

The Saginaw County sheriff's department tells TV stations WJRT and WEYI the crash happened Saturday near Chesaning Middle School. It's about 25 miles west-northwest of Flint.

Officials say the plane took off from Howard Nixon Memorial Airport in Chesaning around 6 p.m. and crashed about 45 minutes later.

The department says the pilot was the only person onboard.

There was no immediate information of the identity of the pilot or what caused the crash.

The Associated Press left email and phone messages for the sheriff's department Sunday seeking details.
