MOUNT MORRIS TOWNSHIP, Mich. State police say an 81-year-old pilot and his 20-year-old passenger were killed in the crash of a small plane in Genesee County near Flint.

The National Transportation Safety Board says it will release details Thursday afternoon about Wednesday's single-engine crash.

The Taylorcraft plane crashed Wednesday about a half-mile east of Dalton Airport in Mount Morris Township.

The pilot took off from Dalton about 7:30 a.m. and was headed to Owosso Community Airport, 20 miles southwest.

Searchers found the plane in heavy thickets after a relative reported it failed to reach its destination.

State police tell WEYI-TV that those killed were pilot Jerry Zerbe and passenger Bryce Frownfelter.

WLEW says Bryce Frownfelter was taking flying lessons and attended Western Michigan University.
