The U.S. Transportation Security Administration says its agents found a loaded gun in the carry-on luggage of a passenger at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
The agency says authorities arrested the passenger Tuesday at the Romulus airport's McNamara Terminal. It didn't release details about the passenger.
The Detroit Free Press reports the agency says the .38-caliber revolver was found about 2:30 p.m. It says airport police were notified, seized the weapon and arrested the passenger.
Firearms are illegal in carry-on luggage but can be transported in checked baggage if properly declared and packaged.
Transportation Safety Administration Detroit security director Bob Ball says about four firearms are found daily at security airports nationwide and almost all "are brought inadvertently."
