Renovations will close portions of Port Austin State Harbor this boating season.

The state Department of Natural Resources says construction has
started on the second phase of the project and renovations are expected to be completed in December.

Fixed piers on the East Dock will be removed, floating docks will be installed and sheet piling will be rebuilt. A portion of the harbor will be dredged.

Boat ramps, East Dock slips, some slips along the West Dock at
the harbor in Huron County will be closed for the duration of the project. Some West Dock slips will be available for transient boaters.

Alternate launch sites for smaller boats are available at the neighboring Port Austin Marina.

The three-phase project started in 2010.
