BENTON HARBOR In just one month, Benton Harbor's parks conservancy will take over control of city parks.

The conservancy set a goal to raise $250,000 by December 1, and they still have a ways to go. The Herald Palladium reports that they have raised $172,000 so far.

They have pledges from several area businesses, but no commitment on the amount. However, they say they're confident it will be enough to get started cleaning up the parks.

The conservancy also hopes to achieve non-profit status within the next three months.
