The Detroit schools say 400 parents will be bused downtown for a back-to-school parade, rally and education expo.
The district says parents and students will be picked up Saturday from hubs at each of the Detroit Public Schools' eight Parent Resource Centers.
They will be taken to the parade kickoff site at Grand Circus Park then to Hart Plaza on the riverfront. While on the buses, parents will take part in workshops designed to prepare them and their children for the upcoming school year that starts September 6.
More workshops will be held at the expo.
Free immunizations also will be given.
The district continues to fight declining enrollment, which dropped from 104,000 in 2007 to 74,000 this past school year.
Enrollment this fall is expected at 66,360.
