A new art competition is open to those who live, work, or go to school in the Economic Growth Alliance region of Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, Genesee, Lapeer and St. Clair counties.

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and Park West Gallery CEO Albert Scaglione launched the MIGreatArtist contest this week.

Artists may submit pictures of up to five original paintings, drawings or sketches to the MIGreatArtist website.

That process begins Friday and runs through July 20.

From the top 20 artists, a five-member jury of arts professionals will select five semifinalists. The winner will be determined by a combination of jury score and public vote.

The MIGreatArtist winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize and more. Four runners-up each will receive $250 and other prizes.
