A new Michigan Sports Hall of Fame class is set to be formerly enshrined at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.
The Hall of Fame says in a release that Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson will serve as honorary chairs for the Sept. 15 event.
The class features eight new inductees, including Detroit high school standout and former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jerome Bettis, former Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr, and Michigan State University football All-American and former New York Giant Carl Banks.

John Spring of Detroit and longtime Detroit St. Martin De Porres football coach Ron Thompson also will enter the Hall.
