NILES With implementation of the Affordable Care Act, millions of Americans question whether or not their employers will continue health benefits.

Many have reduced part-time workers’ hours in order to avoid having to provide insurance, but one Michiana community is moving the opposite direction.

The Niles Daily reports that the city will now offer health insurance to all part-time employees and elected officials.

The new coverage will be different from the plans for full-time employees and will drive overall healthcare spending in the city up about 5 percent.
