KALAMAZOO, Mich. The Innocence Clinic at University of Michigan law school is taking the case of a man convicted of killing two hunters in Kalamazoo County nearly 25 years ago.
Clinic director David Moran and others are holding a news conference Tuesday in Kalamazoo. They say Jeff Titus was wrongly charged and convicted in the deaths of Doug Estes and Jim Bennett.
The men were shot in the back in 1990 while in the Fulton State Game Area near Kalamazoo. Titus wasn't charged until 2001, 11 years later.
His property was adjacent to the public land. There were no witnesses to the shooting, but trial witnesses said Titus had a history of aggressively confronting people who entered his property.
The 62-year-old is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder.
