The 2012 “Mr. Blossomtime” title holder has been stripped of his title and is behind bars for allegedly driving drunk and running from police.

According to the Herald Palladium, Agape Mpamira, 19, or Mr. Blossomtime, is facing charges of drunk driving, resisting and obstructing police, and making a false report for an incident that occurred on Nov. 22, 2012.

The 2012 Buchanan High School graduate reportedly ran from police after being pulled over for suspected drunk driving. The next day, police say Mpamira called the station to say that his car had been stolen. Officials say his car was not stolen, but rather it had been impounded by the Niles Police Department.

On Friday, Jan. 19, Mpamira appeared in Berrien County Trial Court for a pre-exam conference on the felony and drunk driving charges he now faces, his trial is scheduled for later on this year on April 16.

He faces a year in prison for drunk driving, two years for resisting police and four years for making a false report of a felony. Mpamira has been in jail since being arraigned on Jan. 9, bond is now set at 10 percent of $7,500 on the two felony charges, and 10 percent of $5,000 on the charge of drunk driving.

Now the President of the Blossomtime Festival, Anna Abdelnour, has released a statement regarding Mpamira saying she was saddened to hear about the felony and misdemeanor charges:
“Although Agape will no longer serve as Mr. Blossomtime, we wish him and his family the best during this difficult time.

The Blossomtime Festival has a hundred-year history as a community festival with a legacy of young people who proudly and honorably represent their communities. The Festival Board of Directors, staff, and hundreds of pageant participants representing our community will continue to focus on our values.”
