An 84-year-old southern Michigan mom who gave up her first-born child for adoption more than six decades ago has been reunited with her daughter.

Gloria Haughian of Jackson was 21 years old in 1947, when Darlene Murdoch was born in a hospital that accepted unwed, pregnant women. Murdoch was adopted a few days later by a family
who moved to Pennsylvania.

Murdoch said she knew about her adoption but never pressed her
parents for specifics.

A search that began following her father's 2009 death led her to
Haughian, who'd told no one about the adoption.

Haughian tells the Jackson Citizen Patriot she wasn't in any position to raise a child in 1947 and knows she did the right thing. Still, she thought about her daughter "almost every day."
