A major storm hitting the Midwest is clipping the state, bringing snowfall to West Michigan and parts of the Upper Peninsula.

The storm moved into Michigan on Friday, with 1 to 2 inches forecast for parts of West Michigan. In places, the snow is expected to change to freezing drizzle and motorists are urged to drive with caution.

The National Weather Service says parts of the Upper Peninsula could get 3 to 5 inches of snow by the time the storm wraps up. That follows a strong storm earlier in the week that dumped more than 20 inches of snow on parts of the area, closing roads and schools.

The Detroit area could get 1 to 2 inches by day's end. Some other areas could see 2 to 3 inches.
