Artists who submitted designs for the state's new Michigan Heirloom Birth Certificate are about to find out which designs have been chosen as the best.
The Children's Trust Fund of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Community Health plan to unveil the winning designs during a Capitol ceremony at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The winning artists will each be awarded a $750 cash prize.
The Heirloom Birth Certificate is intended to be a permanent memento for anyone born in Michigan, although it's not an official birth record. The keepsake will showcase the individual's name, date of birth, place of birth and the parents' names.
A portion of the proceeds raised from sale of the special certificates will go to the Children's Trust Fund to help prevent child abuse and neglect.
