PONTIAC, Mich. Southeastern Michigan authorities say they've arrested a 17-year-old boy who chased his mother with an ax after she flushed his marijuana down the toilet.

The Oakland County sheriff's department says the 36-year-old Pontiac woman called an emergency dispatcher Monday saying she'd locked herself in the bathroom and her son was striking the door with the ax.

Undersheriff Mike McCabe says in a statement that the woman found a marijuana plant the teen was growing in the basement. She says he became upset after she flushed it and started chasing her while wielding the ax.

McCabe says deputies searched the neighborhood and found the boy walking about a block away. It says they found the ax inside the house.

The undersheriff says the teen is in jail while authorities prepare charges.
