Michigan Lottery's lucky number: 40

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Lottery is turning 40 and plans to share pieces of its past, present and future.

Lottery officials say they will celebrate the 40th anniversary Tuesday afternoon with a media event at in Lansing. Guests are expected to include the lottery's first chief, Gus Harrison, and several other former commissioners.

Officials say they also plan to share highlights of the operation and discuss what lies ahead.

Lottery regional claim centers plan to offer refreshments and anniversary tokens to players claiming prizes on that day.

The lottery says it sold its first ticket on Nov. 13, 1972, and has contributed more than $17 billion to state education since then.
