Mich. lawmakers seek more emphasis on US flag

Some state lawmakers want public schools to place more emphasis on honoring the U.S. flag.

The Detroit News reports that bills pending in the Legislature would require schools to mount an American flag in every classroom and require public schools to "ensure" students have an opportunity to recite the Pledge of Allegiance each school day.

Another bill that's been sent to Gov. Rick Snyder would require all governmental entities in Michigan to fly only American-made flags.

Students and their parents would have to report violations of the pledge legislation. They don't spell out specific sanctions for schools that don't meet the requirement.
