Marchers converged on downtown Battle Creek to protest recent violence and those who might blame students at a local high school for causing problems.

The Battle Creek Enquirer reports (http://bcene.ws/SHT0Ag ) about 2,000 people, including students from across Calhoun County, participated in Friday morning's march. It began in front of Battle Creek Central High School. Students were silent as they marched, waving signs at motorists.

The march ended with a rally.

The events were planned after people posting online blamed "thugs" and "gangbangers" at the school for a Sept. 28 shooting that happened nearby. Police say at least two Central High School students were involved. But educators say they don't represent the 1,200-student school.
