A 20-year-old man has been charged in the shooting of two people during the 2011 Independence Day fireworks display in Grand Rapids.

Devontae Collier was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and being a habitual offender.

The two victims were part of a large group that had gathered to watch a fight in a parking lot last July 4. Both had leg wounds and were treated at a Grand Rapids hospital.

The Kent County prosecutor's office authorized a warrant Tuesday against Collier, who was in a county jail on unrelated charges.

A judge has ordered Collier held on a $500,000 cash bond. A preliminary examination is scheduled July 10. A lawyer wasn't yet
assigned for him Wednesday afternoon.
