TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. Police say a Traverse City man tried to blow up his apartment building and told investigators that voices in his head prompted his actions.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports police responding Monday to the odor of gas at the Bay Hill Apartments complex found the 53-year-old man outside. Capt. Brian Heffner says the man told officers he left his stove burners open with hope of an explosion.

No injuries were reported.

Police arrested the man and a mental health evaluation is planned. Fire crews went into the building and ventilated the man's apartment unit.
