A man wanted in the 2008 slayings of his wife and two children in their suburban Detroit home has been arrested in India.
Police in Novi say 46-year-old Lakshminivasa Rao Nerusu was being held Friday by authorities near Hyderabad, India.
Nerusu was arrested Wednesday. He was wanted for three counts of first-degree murder and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
His 37-year-old wife, Jayalakshmi, their 14-year-old daughter, Tejasvi, and 12-year-old son, Siva, were killed Oct. 13, 2008 in Novi, northwest of Detroit. Their bodies were found two weeks later.
Lakshminivasa Nerusu bought a one-way plane ticket and left Oct. 14, 2008 from Detroit Metropolitan Airport to India.
The State Department and U.S. Department of Justice are handling extradition proceedings. Novi police say that may take several years if contested by Nerusu.
